Below is a list of the 2023 ANZAC Day Currumbin activities to help you plan your visit.
The Lighting of Throwers Bridge & Elephant Rock
The Currumbin ANZAC Day week illumination programs begin on April 17, even though ANZAC Day is on April 25. The community’s response to the ANZAC illumination programs in past years was largely positive. Throwers Bridge in Currumbin and Elephant Rock at Currumbin Beach are illuminated by the area this year.
Currumbin RSL Walk4remembrance
Consider engaging in worthwhile activities while you’re there. Through the Currumbin RSL Walk for Remembrance, please take advantage of the chance to raise awareness of the veterans who have died while serving their nation and donate to projects that support veterans to help eradicate the stigma associated with mental illness.
This year’s 8-kilometre walk will start in the Currumbin RSL Reserve near the stream, and the midway point will be at the Tugun Surf Life Saving Club. All proceeds from the Currumbin RSL Walk4Remembrance will go to the Veteran Support Center, which will continue to offer veterans excellent care and services. The Currumbin RSL Walk4Remembrance is on April 23, and you must register by April 16 to participate.
ANZAC Day
Elephant Rock on Currumbin Beach is the Currumbin RSL Dawn Service site. The dawn ceremony will start at 5 am following the 4:35 am ANZAC Day march. The ANZAC Day Dawn Service draws a large audience, so get there early. Following the dawn ceremony, there will be a complimentary Gun Fire Breakfast at Currumbin RSL for veterans, branch members, and active service people.
The Currumbin RSL will also have a mid-morning service at the club’s cenotaph. Registration is not needed. But if you plan to march when the procession starts at 10:35 am, join the others at Winders Park as the cenotaph service starts at 10:55 am.
After the mid-morning ceremony at the Currumbin RSL Cenotaph, the Currumbin Palm Beach RSL Sub Branch will host its annual ANZAC Day Luncheon. Ticket holders may enter the Waterside Events area of the Currumbin RSL beginning at noon.
At 12:30 pm, the club’s doors open to the general public. The venerable Australian game Two Up now commences. In the classic coin-flipping match known as “two-up,” participants can bet on the flip’s outcome. It’s a beautiful way to spend an afternoon once a year and has associations with respect and remembering deceased warriors.
Make travel arrangements for ANZAC Day and stay at Royal Palm Resort to ensure you can reach the services without delay.
The resort provides a variety of accommodations right on the beach. The two, three, and four-bedroom holiday apartments feature trendy open-plan layouts and are self-contained. A lagoon-style pool, a spa, a sauna, and a tennis court are all available at Royal Palm, and guests have direct access to Palm Beach.
